IRONDALE – It was déjà vu being down three to zero when Alabama A&M changed pitchers, but this time Mississippi Valley State held the Lady Bulldogs scoreless with an 8-0 win in the second round of the SWAC softball tournament, Friday night.
Alabama A&M dropped into the losers bracket and will face Prairie View on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
Cassandra Brown came in once again for starting pitcher Anisa Britt who was rocked with three runs early in the game, but this time it was a different outcome.
In the top of the first inning Valley’s Alex Robertson scored Brianna Holmes and Kishti Kamaka with a double to left center field. Imora Perez singled to left field to bring in Robertson to give MVSU a 3-0 lead.
A&M had runners in scoring position in the first, but was unable to score when Brianna Zeigler lined out to center field.
Raven Grubbs and LaQueesha Poe each had a hit for the Lady Bulldogs.
MVSU scored three runs in the fifth and added two more in the sixth to end the game.
Britt took the loss for the Maroon and White. The newcomer gave up seven hits and three walks after facing 19 batters in 2.1 innings of work in the circle.
