TSU takes two from A&M

NASHVILLE - The Tennessee State Lady Tigers posted a 5-0 and 5-4 win over the Alabama A&M Lady Bulldogs in a non-conference double header action, on a hot Wednesday evening in Nashville, TN.

With the win TSU improves to a 14-37 overall, while AAMU falls to 13-25.

The Lady Tigers quickly posted a two run lead in their opening frame off of two hits and reeled off another three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the 5-0 to seal the victory.

Meijah McCollum was the lone Lady Bulldog to get the only hit of the game off of pitcher Shay Morris as she struck out seven out of the 21 batters she faced.

Anisa Britt suffered the loss for Alabama A&M. In three innings of work she allowed two runs on two hits with two strike outs.

In the second game, the Lady Bulldogs bats came alive with a total of seven hits, but fell short in the runs, falling 5-4. In the top of the third inning A&M jumped out first as catcher Melony Hill scored on a throwing error by the TSU’s catcher. Top half of the fourth inning the Maroon and White tied the game two all, as Meijah McCollum scored on a RBI double from Shanika Johnson.

The Lady Tigers quickly regained the lead 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth; in that segment TSU tallied four hits and two runs.

A&M scoring drive in the fifth was when Jasmine James single up the middle to advance Melony Hill, but an error by the center fielder, gave Hill the opportunity to score. Briana Zeigler came home on a Fayesha Ward’s RBI single, to knot the score four all.

It was a three up three down for A&M in the sixth and seventh inning. But in the bottom of the seventh inning an RBI single was enough to capture the win for TSU.

Up next for AAMU, is the 2012 SWAC Softball Tournament which will be held in Irondale, AL on May 10-13.
