Victory At Last; Lady Bulldogs get 3-1 victory at Grambling

Grambling- Grambling- The Alabama A&M Lady Bulldogs soccer team got their first victory of the season after beating the Lady Tigers of Grambling State University 3-1.

The Maroon & White dominated the play from beginning to end. Maintaining majority of possession and controlling the flow of the game were the keys to victory. It didn't take much for the Lady Bulldogs to put their stamp on the contest.

On the first shot of the game, freshman Estelle Esperance put A&M on the board giving them the lead over the Lady Tigers. Esperance received a ball from Ana Huertas and slipped it into the back of the net. The freshman scored a second goal minutes later to give the Lady Bulldogs a 2-0 cushion going into the half. Estelle's eighth goal of the season would prove to be the game winning goal.

After taking a 2-0 lead into the break, A&M came out with the same energy to start the second period. Action continued to flow in the Maroon & White's direction and the defense continued to hold strong. GSU increased their pressure, and began firing shots at the goal of Marissa Oehler who was up to the task.

The Lady Tigers got on the board after scoring a ball when a funny bounce beat the A&M defense. Giving up a goal did nothing to deter the will of the Maroon & White. Freshman Andrea Chacon immediately responded to the GSU goal with one of her own. Chacon received a ball from Esperance and slammed home her second score of the 2013 campaign to increase the lead in AAMU's favor 3-1.

Chacon's goal would be the last of the game, making Esperance's second goal the game winner. This win improves A&M's record to 1-13-3 overall and 0-1-2 (SWAC) on the year.

The Lady Bulldogs will play their last game of the regular season next Friday, October 26, versus in-state rival Alabama State University. The game versus the Lady Hornets will be the Kick Pink game in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month and Senior Day. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. at the Lady Bulldog soccer field.
