Lady Bulldogs go 2-2 in AllState Sugar Bowl Invitational

NORMAL – The Alabama A&M bowling team wrapped up its season-opening event Sunday, Oct. 20, at the AMF All Star Lanes as part of the AllState Sugar Bowl Collegiate Invitational. The annual event was hosted by Tulane University.
AAMU, after two days of competition, tallied a 3,685 total pin fall ending the day 1-1 in head-to-head competition and compiling a 2-2 overall record.

A&M began the bracket portion of the tournament seeded seventh after going 0-2, in both baker and team competition Friday and Saturday.

The Lady Bulldogs opened Sunday's bowling with a 4.5-2.5 defeat from Bethune-Cookman in the opening round. Then A&M stumbled to Louisiana Tech in the next round by a 4-2 decision.

The Maroon and White completed the weekend in fourth place, using a 4-1 defeat over Tulane University in its final match.

The Lady Bulldogs return to the lanes Nov. 15-17, traveling to the Hornet Classic hosted by Alabama State in Montgomery, Ala.

The top women's bowlers for A&M included Ariel Dowdy, tallying 1,004 pins with a five game average of 200.8 and Nicole Kleutgen with 983 pins and a 196.6 five game average. Both placed in the top 20 tournament pin counts, finishing 12th and 16th respectively. Rebecca Goodwin placed 26th with a total pin count of 957 in five games, while teammate Camille Collins finish the day at 29th, as she bowled 952, with an average of 191.4.

Participating in the AllState Sugar Bowl Collegiate Invitational along with the Maroon & White and host Tulane University was Sam Houston, Stephen F. Austin, Texas Southern, Alabama State, Bethune-Cookman, Prairie View, Louisiana Tech, Jackson State and Florida A&M.
