NORMAL – The new look Bulldog baseball team concluded its intra-squad Iron Man Challenge. The competition, held over four days, challenged the hit squad both mentally and physically.
The events consisted of bench press, the loop (endurance run), obstacle course, 300-yard shuttle, ultimate Frisbee, flag football and other various competitions. "First and foremost and we are extremely proud of the way our team responded to the challenges that were presented to them," first-year head coach Mitch Hill said.
"Each of them was pushed to their very limits and each of them answered the bell." The Bulldogs were split into two teams (Maroon and Grey). The individual winner was junior Julio Nunez, from Miami, Florida. "Nunez won in the squats and bench press. He pretty much went above and beyond the whole team," Hill mentioned.
"The Grey team won the Iron Man Challenge. "The guys had to compete and battle and they did," Hill recalled. "That's the game of baseball. If a hitter gets behind in the count, we need them to fight back and get a hit. We want our guys to be relentless in every way possible."
