Softball to open season one day later

NORMAL – Due to the threat of rain on Tuesday, Feb, 19th the Alabama A&M softball teams opening day with Jacksonville State has been pushed back one day to Wednesday, Feb. 20th at 2 p.m. at University Field on the campus of Jacksonville State.

The Gamecocks were scheduled to open their newly renovated home on Tuesday with a doubleheader at 4 p.m., but the forecast calls for showers during the day. The two will now play the twin bill one day later.

The Lady Bulldogs return seven starters from the 2012 squad that made an historic run to the third round of the SWAC softball tournament. All-Southwestern Athletic Conference team members, Jasmine Riley and Anisa Britt compliment a plethora of athletes looking to pick up where they left off.

As the Lady Bulldogs starting pitcher, Britt ranked third in the conference in strikeouts. The All-SWAC contender posted a ninth place finish in the ERA category with a 3.72, fourth in innings pitched with 150.2, third in strike outs with 111 and seventh in wins with eight.

Jasmine Riley finished the season first on the team in several categories, including a .352 batting average, 32 hits, and 10 doubles. Nationally speaking the Ellenwood, Georgia native finished 40th in the NCAA in doubles per game with .29 average.
Alabama A&M senior third baseman Jasmin Riley and sophomore pitcher Anisa Britt was named to the 2013 SWAC Preseason Team as chosen by the SWAC coaches and SIDs.
