AAMU softball drops fifth straight road game

SAVANNAH - The Alabama A&M University softball team fell to the Tigers of Savannah State University, on Tuesday afternoon for the second time this season.  The Lady Bulldogs came up short losing, 9-7 and 7-0.

Jasmin Riley and Fayesha Ward led the Lady Bulldogs softball team at the plate with each player collecting three hits in four plate appearances in the first contest versus Savannah State.

Ward also totaled two runs and a RBI while Riley finished with a run and two runs batted in.  Anisa Britt posted two hits on four at bats with two RBI’s.

A&M scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning when Zeigler was hit by a pitch, then stole second base and eventually was brought home on a Ward single.

The Lady Tigers then posted seven runs on five hits to gain a 7-1 advantage after one.  SSU then added two more to there their lead in the bottom of the second.

A&M then woke there bats up scoring a run off three hits in the third on a Ward run.  They then scored another run in the fifth when Ward came across the plate, this time as a result of a throwing error by the right fielder.

When the top of seventh rolled around the Maroon & White found themselves down 9-3.  They would not go out without a fight scoring four runs on four hits but the six runs left on base handcuffed the Lady Bulldogs in collecting enough runs.  Savannah State escaped with a 9-7 win in the first of two meetings on the day.

Miami, Florida native Cassandra Brown earned the loss in the circle while the Lady Tigers Madison Hedderly earned the win.

Game two saw total domination by the home team with SSU winning 7-0.  As a team AAMU earned two hits.

Once again Savannah State’s Hedderly earned the win in a complete game after facing 24 A&M batters.  Gray earned the loss after five innings of work.

Alabama A&M struck out 12 times, flied out twice and grounded out on seven different occasions to earn their 11th loss of the year.

A&M will continue their week long road trip with doubleheader versus South Carolina State on Thursday, March 14th.  First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
