Alabama A&M Softball Completes the Season Sweep of SC State

ORANGEBURG -- The Alabama A&M softball team defeated South Carolina State, 6-2 and 2-0, in a non-conference matchup at the Lady Bulldog Field, in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
With the win A&M improved to 7-11 overall.

Game one scoring started off with Jasmine James scoring off a single by Nikkia Rambert to give A&M the 1-0 advantage heading into middle of the third. The SCS Lady Bulldogs countered quickly with a run of its own in its half of the sixth.

A&M started off their share of the sixth inning when Briana Zeigler led off the Maroon and White with a walk which was followed by a doubled from senior Jasmine Riley. Riley’s double went up the middle, which brought Zeigler home, was the first of five runs of the inning for the Lady Bulldogs. Megan Gray doubled to left field to score Riley and Anisa Britt got on with a walk.

Nicole Norton then scored off a ground out by Jasmine James while Melody Hill came across the plate scoring the fifth run of the inning.

A&M’s defense was solid over the next two innings. The Blue and White managed to score on a Lady Bulldogs throwing error in the bottom of the seventh to pull within four, 6-2, but would not score anymore, thus falling by the four run margin.

Cassandra Brown pitched six innings, striking out eight batters, while walking one.

In game two the Lady Bulldogs of A&M scored two runs in the second and fourth innings. In the top half the second, Jasmine James reached on a fielder’s choice and advanced to third. James then scored on an error by the catcher.

In the fourth, James again contributes as she tripled to score Nicole Norton. James tried to advance home but she was called out at the plate.

Anisa Britt recorded her second win of the year after a complete game only giving up three hits.

The victories gave Alabama A&M softball a two game win streak.

Up next, the AAMU will host Belmont University, on Wednesday, March 20th at Lady Bulldog field. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
