Softball set for home opener

Normal- Weather wreaked havoc on the start of the 2013 softball season; playing a role in their first four contest of the year. Games were either delayed or postponed, including the game that would have been the home opener. The original home opener versus cross-town rival the University of Alabama in Huntsville was postponed due to heavy rains in the area.

With eight games under their belt, the 3-5 Maroon & White are set to play their first games in front of their hometown fans. The team will play back-to-back doubleheaders versus in-state foes.

On Thursday, March 7th the team will host the Tigers of Tuskegee University at Lady Bulldog Field, first pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. The two teams were set to meet earlier in the season in Tuskegee, but the game was postponed due to weather induced poor playing conditions.

After playing the TU Tigers, the Lady Bulldogs will host the Gamecocks of Jacksonville State University (11-9) for second consecutive double-header.

A&M traveled to Jacksonville to open their 2013 season in early February. On the road, The Maroon & White fell twice to the Gamecocks 9-1 and 12-0. The Lady Bulldogs plated their only run of the afternoon in their first plate appearance. Anisa Britt singled off JSU starter Hilary Phillips to score Brianna Zeigler, who led off the game with a hit by pitch.

First pitch versus JSU is set for 2:00 p.m.

Both games can be followed via live stats.
