Softball Wins Home Opener With 10-2 and 7-1 victory over Tuskegee

NORMAL, Ala. - The Alabama A&M softball team scored 17 runs and pounded out 20 hits, including a homerun, on the way to a doubleheader sweep over Tuskegee University on “The Hill”.
A&M won the first game 10-2 and then took the nightcap 7-1. The Maroon and White improved to 5-5 with the sweep while Tuskegee dropped to 1-5 overall.

Anisa Britt homered once for the Lady Bulldogs. Britt, now has three home runs on the season.

The Lady Bulldogs jumped on board in the bottom of the first inning. With two outs, Jasmine Riley spark the A&M rally with a double. With three runners in scoring position Nicole Norton, blasted a triple down left field line to score two RBI’s. Jasmine James then singled Norton in to give the Lady Bulldogs a 4-0 advantage.
A&M was scoreless in the second inning, however, they scored two runs in the fourth and fifth, and one in the sixth.

Meagan Gray (2-3) struck out two and scattered eight hits to earn the pitching win in the opener.
Tuskegee saw Bria Smith lead the Lady Tigers with a perfect 2 for 2 at the plate with a run. Latifha Kelly earned the loss after facing 29 batters.
Game two saw A&M used its power hitting again. Fayesha Ward was a perfect three for three with a run batted in. Scoring in the first inning was a theme for the Maroon and White on the day.
The Lady Bulldogs would score four more runs, as BriannaZeigler, Ward, Jasmine Riley, and Anisa Britt each crossed home plate.
Britt (1-0) allowed four hits and one earned run while striking out five in the second game of the home opener.
Kenya Smith led the Lady Tigers going 2 for 3 at the plate with RBI. Markeia Billups picked up the loss after giving up eight hits and five earned runs.
The Maroon & White will return home on Friday, March 8th to take on Jacksonville State. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
