Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Normal- The Alabama A&M Lady Bulldogs softball team dropped a double-header to the Gamecocks of Jacksonville State University Friday afternoon.

It was the second time in which the teams met this season, and the forth victory for the Gamecocks over the Lady Bulldogs.

It was a beautiful day on The Hill; the sun was shining with a nice breeze, great weather for softball action.

In game one, A&M pitcher Cassandra Brown took the loss, as the Lady Bulldogs fell 9-1. Brown pitched six full innings and gave up eight runs including a homerun to JSU’s center fielder Ella Denes.

The Gamecocks got off to a hot start at the plate after Krystal Ruth tripled the first pitch of the game. By the end of the second inning the Gamecocks had a 4-0 lead. JSU would continue to grow their lead to nine, adding single runs in the 4th and 7th, and three in the 6th.

A&M scored their lone run of the match, after a Jasmine James’ single scored Meaghan Gray in the fourth inning.

Freshman Angel Crawford came in at the top of the seventh inning to close out the game in the circle for the Maroon & White. Crawford faced six batters and gave up one run in the 9-1 loss.

Game two started with a few lineup changes for A&M, most notably, sophomore Anisa Britt started in the circle, and Melony Hill replaced Sitembile Lee in the catcher position.

The Gamecocks again got on the scoreboard first, recording a single run. After a scoreless second inning, JSU tallied runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings taking their lead to 6-0.

The Maroon & White answered the JSU rally with a run of their own in the bottom of the fifth inning. Brianna Zeigler went 5-5 on the day, scoring after JSU’s pitcher delivered a bases loaded walk to Gray.

The Gamecocks recorded the final run of the game at the top of the sixth, and went on to win the non-conference contest 7-1.

The Maroon & White now stand at 5-7 overall and will return to action on Tuesday, March 12th when they take on Savannah State in Savannah Georgia.
