Women Tennis Wraps Up first weekend of 2014 Season


NORMAL – Looking forward to starting the season the Alabama A&M women's tennis program battled Georgia Southern, Savannah State and Point University over the weekend.
 
Fresh and ready for their first opponents Georgia Southern and Savannah State, who both had played matches previously, took advantage of Maroon & White giving them their first and second losses of the year.
 
The next opponent to challenge A&M would be the Point University Seahawks. After a ninety minute delay, the Bulldogs battled with the Seahawks.
 
Freshman Orianna Rodriguez who put on an excellent performance by defeating Point's Taylor Navarro (6-2, 6-3) and giving her the first win of the season.
 
Team leader Jessica Taylor dominated her match (6-0, 6-2) and earned herself the second win of the match and her first of the year.
 
Rodriguez and Taylor then combined in the doubles competition and became a force to be reckoned with putting on a stellar performance capturing an 8-2 win.
 
Khyana Price and Leslie Epke both played competitive matches but were unsuccessful in their singles match and doubles contest.
 
"I seen some things I like and some things we need to work on," said head coach Willis Mbandi.
 
The Lady's Bulldogs will be back in action on Feb 13th when they travel to take on Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
