Softball completes Blues City Classic

Normal-The 2014 edition of the Alabama A&M softball team fell to 6-9 on the year after competition at the Blues City Classic hosted by the University of Memphis.
 
Four games took place over two days at the BCC. On Friday, the Maroon & White suffered back-to-back defeats to Loyola University - Chicago (8-4) and Missouri State University (8-0).
 
In game one, five Lady Bulldogs tallied hits, led by Raven Grubs who recorded two hits in three at bats versus the Ramblers (Grubs added a run and an RBI in the contest).  A&M plated runs in the first, fifth and sixth innings with two coming in the fifth.
 
In their second contest, the Missouri State Bears (8-2) took an 8-0, five-inning victory over the Lady Bulldogs. In defeat, A&M was able to record four hits, led by Ashley Gonzales who went 2-2 on the day.
 
On the second day of competition, the Maroon & White fell twice. In the first contest, A&M dropped an 11-2 decision to the Appalachian State Mountaineers (3-7). Taiya McInnes and Haylee Moran-Rowen each recorded one hit, while Gonzales added her third hit of the weekend.  McInnes and Viridiana Ramos each scored a run in the contest.
 
In the final match of the tournament, the Maroon & White dropped a close 5-2 decision to the Evansville Purple Aces (4-4).
 
Four A&M softball players added hits to their weekend totals against the Purple Aces.  Moran-Rowen and Garth each added a hit, while Ramos and Grubs added two.  Grubbs was also the only Lady Bulldog to record a run as she crossed the plate at the top of the third and fifth innings.
 
The Maroon & White will return to the field on Wednesday, February 26, when they host Tuskegee University in a double header. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. on "The Hill".
