Lady Govs too Much for Lady Bulldogs

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Normal-The Alabama A&M softball team was swept by the Lady Govs of Austin Peay State University on Wednesday afternoon.

In their only home contests of the month of March, the Maroon & White were defeated 15-6 and 4-0 (five innings).

The Clarksville, Tenn. team proved too much for A&M as they were outscored 19-6 in 12 innings of play.

In game one, A&M took an early lead, scoring a single run in the first inning. APSU got away lucky as they were able to end the inning with three A&M runners on the bases.

The second period saw the scoreboard remain with the home team leading 1-nil. The third inning, would see the visitors begin a run in which they would plate at least two runs for the remaining of the game.

After consecutive 2-0 innings for the visiting team, the Lady Govs held a 4-1 advantage going into the top of the fifth. They then increased their lead to 8-1 going into the seventh inning.

Anisa Britt helped the Lady Bulldogs cut the visitors scoring run by smacking in a two RBI single up the heart of the APSU defense.

Despite a valiant effort, A&M could not overcome the lead built by the Lady Govs.

Game one of the doubleheader would end with the Lady Govs capturing a 15-6 victory. It also was not only the highest scoring game the Maroon & White have been involved with this season, but also the longest that did not require extra innings.  The 21-run, seven inning game took a total of three hours to complete, and forced game two to be cut short to just five innings due to a rapidly setting sun.

The second contest lacked the offensive dominance of game one. Two Lady Bulldog errors led to the visitors plating four runs in the first inning. These early runs proved enough to win the game as the Maroon & White were held off the board in five innings before the game was called due to lack of light.

After this afternoon's action the Lady Bulldogs fall to 8- 13 on the season. They will return to action March 12, when the take on the Belmont Bruins in Nashville, Tenn.
