Softball falls to Mississippi Valley 9-8

NORMAL – In a game that saw the lead change hands multiple times the Alabama A&M softball team fell 9-8 to Devilettes of Mississippi Valley Friday afternoon.

A&M opened a 3-0 lead after the opening three innings when Aleah Garth doubled to left field scoring Anisa Brit. Garth then scored when catcher Melony Hill singled.  Chelsey Ferguson provided the third run in the third inning when Ashley Gonzales tripled to right field.

Valley then showed their sticks with a five run fourth inning to take their first advantage.

The Lady Bulldogs then scored a run in the final four innings adding a pair in the sixth, but Valley added two in the sixth and two in the top of the seventh before the final out was registered in the bottom of the seventh closing out the first of three games in the Southwestern Athletic Conference series.

A&M collected 10 hits with Hill leading the way going 3 for 3 with two runs and a RBI. Garth finished the game 2 for 4 with a run and a run batted in.

Mississippi Valley and the Maroon & White will get together again on Saturday, April 19, at 1 and 3 p.m. to complete the Eastern Division series and honor the seniors in their final home contest at the AAMU softball field.
