A&M’s Sanders and Largin Named All-SWAC

HUNTSVILLE, AL --- The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced Monday the league's yearly awards and all-conference teams. Alabama A&M sophomore Tiana Sanders was named to the All-SWAC Softball first team and sophomore Imani Largin was named to the second team by conference coaches and sports information directors.

Sanders, the Lady Bulldogs shortstop, adds her third SWAC honor this season, as she was also named to the 2016 Preseason Softball All-SWAC second team, and was recognized as the SWAC's Hitter of the Week for her exceptional performance during the week of March 7-14.

In SWAC play, Sanders batted .400 in 19 games. Her 50 total bases in the SWAC was a team-best and she slugged a leading .833. Sanders posted a .500 on base percentage, including 24 hits in league play. The Shelbyville, Tenn., native is second in the SWAC with 12 home runs.

Largin paced the SWAC with a .404 batting average and garnered the All-SWAC second team outfielder honor for the first time in her career. The Clarksville, Tenn., native tallied 21 hits including five doubles in league play, while compiling a .468 on base percentage. Largin swiped 32 bases on the season and drove in 16 runs as she registered a .615 slugging percentage.

Sanders, Largin and the Lady Bulldogs are in action Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in Irondale, taking on Texas Southern in the first round of the SWAC Softball Tournament. Texas Southern is the West Division champions; A&M finished fourth in the East.

The tournament will take place May 11-14 at Shea Brothers Softball Complex in Irondale. Daily tickets are $10 for adults and $3 for children. Tournament passes are $25 for adults and $10 for children.
