Counting Down to the 2017 Softball Season

HUNTSVILLE - A 54-game schedule awaits the Alabama A&M University softball team beginning on Feb. 10, as the Lady Bulldogs have been working hard and preparing for the season.

The Lady Bulldogs, led by fourth-year head coach Nakeya Hall, are known for challenging themselves during the non-conference schedule and 2017 is no different as the team will participate in four non-conference tournaments in February and March - including the Lamar University Cardinal Classic in Beaumont, TX from February 23 to February 26.

In 2017 slate, A&M will play 36 non-conference games and 18 against Southwestern Athletic Conference opponents.

The season opens up at the Gardner-Webb University Softball Tourney in Boiling Springs, NC. A&M is scheduled to play North Carolina A&T State, Gardner-Webb and East Tennessee State.

The Lady Bulldogs then head to Nashville, Tenn., for the Tiger Classic Tournament, where they go toe-to-toe against Iowa State and the host Tennessee State.

On Feb. 23-26, the Lamar University Cardinal Classic will put the Lady Bulldogs against Lamar University, University of Tulsa, Northern Illinois University, South Dakota State and University of Kansas in a six-game tournament.

The home-opener is on Tuesday, March 7 against Tuskegee University for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.

The Southeast Missouri State Tournament on March 10-12 in Oxford, Ala. consists of games against Tennessee State University, Eastern Illinois, Southeast Missouri State, Belmont University and Jacksonville State.

The next weekend, A&M returns home to Lady Bulldog Field to host Western Kentucky on March 16. A&M then hosts Texas Southern in a three-game home series from March 17-18 before playing host to Jacksonville State on March 22.

The Lady Bulldogs travel to Baton Rouge, La. for SWAC play as they take on Southern University in a three-game series on March 24-25. They return to Huntsville to visit Oakwood University on March 27 for a non-conference doubleheader.

Two consecutive road game series against Alabama State and Mississippi Valley will take place from March 31-April 8, with a home game against Oakwood University pegged on April 11. The Lady Bulldogs then host Alcorn State in a three-game series from April 14-15.

A&M final road game will take place on April 18 in Murfreesboro, Tenn. against Middle Tennessee State before hosting Tennessee State on April 19. The regular season wraps-up with a three-game home series against Jackson State from April 28-29.

The SWAC Championship will be in Montgomery, Ala. from May 10-13.
