HUNTSVILLE -- A talented group of student-athletes will be taking their final steps on the turf of Louis Crews Stadium today.

Some 18 Bulldogs will be honored during Senior Day ceremonies before the game with Kentucky State : Tere Calloway, Harvey Harris, Devonte King, Dexter Reese, Justin Brown, Nick Carden, Byran Brower, Bryan Brower, Roderick Randolph, Ryan Ducksworth, Devin Andrews, Kenneth Davis, Alvintae Kirksey, Vernon Moland, Chazz Wilson, Austin Simmons, Patrick Burroughs, Kalais Robertson and Averee Giles.

Several of the Bulldogs are keys to the success of the A&M defense this season - ranked second overall in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

In particular, the A&M pass defense has been stellar - even ranked nationally.

The Bulldogs are second in the SWAC and 20th in the nation with 29 sacks this season and second in the SWAC with 238 opponents' yards lost.
There are four Bulldogs among the league's top 12 in sacks - Vernon Moland, Kenneth Davis, Yurik Bethune and Dylan Hamilton - the most of any team.

Speaking of Moland, a redshirt junior who will graduate in May, he was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Today is also Military Appreciation Day and all active and retired military will be admitted free.

The game can be hear on WJAB-FM 90.9/wjab.org with Ted Dixie on the play-by-play. Kickoff is 1 p.m.

Senior Day
Today we honor the 19 seniors and a special trainer. Tere Calloway, Harvey Harris, Devonte King, Dexter Reese, Justin Brown, Nick Carden, Byran Brower, Bryan Brower, Roderick Randolph, Ryan Ducksworth, Devin Andrews, Kenneth Davis, Alvintae Kirksey, Vernon Moland, Chazz Wilson, Austin Simmons, Patrick Burroughs, Kalais Robertson and Averee Giles will be recognized in a special pregame ceremony. Trainer Daisia Glenn, who has been with the football team all four seasons since 2014, will also be honored.

Player of the Week
Alabama A&M defensive lineman Vernon Moland is the Southwestern Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week. Moland, a 5-foot-10, 235-pound redshirt junior, had seven total tackles (five solo, two assisted), four sacks (minus-21 yards), five tackles for loss (minus-25 yards), a forced fumble and a quarterback hurry last Saturday against Jackson State.

The Bulldogs are second in the SWAC in total defense, yielding just 331.3 yards per game.

No fly zone
A&M has the league's second-best pass defense at 161.6 yards per game. The Bulldogs have also picked off 9 passes – third-best in the SWAC.

Three and out
The Bulldogs are second in opponents' third-down conversion. Opponents have made just 37 of 112 third-downs against the Bulldogs for 33.9 percent.

No flags
The Bulldogs are the second-least penalized team in the SWAC, assessed 77 penalties for 583 yards (58.3 ypg).

Protection racket
The Bulldogs have given up just 15 sacks, the fewest in the SWAC.

Meeting at the QB
There are four Bulldogs among the league's top 12 in sacks – the most of any team. Vernon Moland is second with nine total sacks (6 solo, 4 assists), Kenneth Davis is seventh with 4 ½ (4 solo, 1 assist), Yurik Bethune is 10th with four total sacks (2 solo, 4 assists) and Dylan Hamilton is 12th with 3½ (3 solo, 1 assist).

Thrown for a loss
Kenneth Davis is sixth in the SWAC with 10 tackles for loss (8 solo, 4 assists), Yurik Bethune is eighth in the conference with 9 ½ tackles for loss (6 solo, 7 assists) and Vernon Moland is 10th with 9 (7 solo, 4 assists). The Bulldogs and Grambling are the only teams with three players in the top 10.

Getting opportunistic
Mike Mills and Dylan Hamilton have each recovered two fumbles.
