HUNTSVILLE -- The upcoming Southwestern Athletic Conference football season has a major change for its teams: A seven-game league schedule.

And, for the first time since the 2013 season, the Bulldogs have five home games at Louis Crews Stadium.
The dates are Sept. 23 vs. Texas Southern (Louis Crews Classic); Homecoming is Sept. 30 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff; Oct. 14 vs. Mississippi Valley; Nov. 11 vs. Jackson State and Nov. 18 vs. Kentucky State for Senior Day.
Concerning the new SWAC schedule, no longer will each team play every other team in the conference. The teams will play everyone in their division and three teams from the other division.
The Bulldogs' Eastern Division opponents are Alabama State, Alcorn State, Jackson State and Mississippi Valley. Their Western Division opponents this year are Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Southern and Texas Southern.
The nonconference slate features games at UAB, Vanderbilt, South Alabama and Kentucky State.
The UAB game marks the rebirth of the Blazers' football program. UAB canceled it at the end of the 2015 season but brought it back after a ground-swell of public outcry and support.
