AUBURN ---Rida Khalid pulled out her first win this season over a ranked opponent this season, but the Alabama A&M University women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 14 Auburn Tuesday afternoon on the Plains.
With the loss, the Lady Bulldogs dropped to 0-4 overall, while AU improved to 11-1.
The doubles scoring began with AAMU's Virag Hollos and Khalid falling 6-2 on court No. 1 to Auburn's duo of Reka Muller and Roos Van der Zwaan. The Tigers would clinch the doubles point on No. 2, as AAMU's Shrarre Smith and Beatriz Gutierrez Cerezo fell 6-1 to Caroline Turner and Georgie Axon. On court No. 3, Alyssa Williams and Jazmine Lawson were defeated 6-1 by Sarah Beth Dolinger and Mary Katherine Lewis.
The Tigers would carry their momentum into singles action, as Gutierrez was defeated by Alizee Michaud 6-4, 6-1. Smith, Williams and Lawson each fell 6-0, 6-0, respectively, in their contests.
The Lady Bulldogs did not leave empty-handed on the afternoon, as Khalid defeated Auburn's Dolinger 7-6, 6-7, 1-0 (11). Hollos also gave tremendous efforts despite falling 7-6, 0-6, 1-0 (3) in her contest against Auburn's Andie Dikosavljevic.
The Lady Bulldogs will return to action on Friday, February 18, as travel to Tallahassee, FL to face Florida A&M University.
