HUNTSVILLE – The Alabama A&M softball fell against Jacksonville State, 8-0, in five innings in a single non-conference game at Lady Bulldog Field on Wednesday afternoon.
The Lady Bulldogs fell to 8-19 on the season as the visiting Lady Gamecocks (18-8) scored eight runs over the first five innings.
For AAMU, junior
Imani Largin (Clarksville, Tenn.) led the Lady Bulldogs with two hits and classmates
Ariel Smith (Huntsville, Ala.) and
Lauren Walker (Ocean Springs, Miss.) each posted one hit.
Junior pitcher
Rachel Sanders (Oakland, Calif.) pitched 4.0 innings of relief, giving up seven runs on eight hits with one strikeout. Senior
Caitlyn Hayden (New Market, Ala.) threw 1.0 inning in relief, giving up one run on three hits.
After taking an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Jacksonville State struck two runs in the top of the second off two singles.
In the top of the third, the Gamecocks doubled to centerfield for two RBI to extend the score to, 5-0. They would continue to extend their lead by seven in the bottom of the third off a two RBI single to right field.
Jacksonville State closed the scoring in the top of the fifth after plating a run off a fielder's choice.
The Lady Bulldogs will return to Southwestern Conference play Friday as they travel to Baton Rouge, La. to play Southern University in a three-game series.
