Softball to Hold Senior Day Friday vs MVSU

HUNTSVILLE -- The Alabama A&M softball team will host Mississippi Valley State in a doubleheader from Lady Bulldogs Field on Friday, April 13, with first pitch set for 1 p.m. and game two to follow shortly after. 

Saturday's single game is set for noon pending the weather.
 
Friday's game will also feature Senior Day with the Lady Bulldogs honoring nine seniors, Rachel Sanders, Emily Lipinski, Cierra Berkemeyer, Kia Lang, Ariel Smith, Lauren Walker, Imani Largin, Jessica Alferos and Tiana Sanders, before the start of the doubleheader. 


FROM THE PLATE
AAMU is currently leading the Southwestern Athletic Conference in six categories including batting average (.313), slugging average (.481), on base percentage (.396), home runs (27) and grounded into double play ( 5). The Lady Bulldogs are led at the plate by sophomore Madi Pozzi, who is batting an impressive .400 on the season thus far. She has compiled 20, including four doubles, and four home runs. She has driven in 17 runs and scored 11 herself.

Close behind Pozzi is Tiana Sanders, who is batting .396 with 36 hits, and a team-high seven doubles, 17 runs scored and 31 RBI.

Sophomore Danielle Hansell is batting .386 in 22 games played on the season. She has 22 hits, 14 RBI and has scored 17 runs for the maroon and white

IN THE CIRCLE
The Lady Bulldogs are led by Lauren Hayden, who has a 2.46  ERA across 74 innings pitched. She has scattered 63 hits, 35 runs (26 earned), 31 walks and 60 strikeouts.

Rachel Sanders has also been solid for the Lady Bulldogs, having pitched 50.2 innings so far on the season. She has scattered 74 hits, 48 runs (28 earned), 23 walks and 29 strikeouts thus far.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Mississippi Valley State is led by Elissa Salinas, who has compiled 13 hits on the season. She is batting .317 with a .439 slugging percentage.

On the mound, the Devilettes are led by Jezebelle Quintana. She has a record of 2-3 with a 4.45 ERA in 10 appearances on the season. 

She has pitched 33.0 innings, scattering 40 hits, 31 runs (21 earned), 25 walks and 14 strikeouts. 

 
ON DECK
After their homestand against the Devilettes, the Lady Bulldogs will travel to Lorman, MS for a three-game series against SWAC foe Alcorn State 4/20-4/21.
