Moore Inducted into City of Huntsville Bowling Hall of Fame

HUNTSVILLE--- Alabama A&M first year Head Women's Bowling coach James Moore was inducted into the City of Huntsville Alabama United States Bowling Congress Hall of Fame on Saturday, June 30, 2018. Coach Moore was awarded for Meritorious Honor for his hard work and volunteering in coaching and promoting youth bowling in the Huntsville Metro Area. His creation of the Roll-X Junior Gold Academy on Redstone Arsenal has opened avenues for young high school bowlers to compete locally, state as well as nationally.

The Bowlers travel nationwide to compete every summer for scholarship money in a National Championship Tournament called Junior Gold. This year, there are over 4300 youth from ages 12-20 competing for scholarship money as well as earning money for college through a program called SMART (Scholarship Management Account Reporting for Tenpins) that banks the money until graduation from High School.  In the two years of its existence, the Academy has had at least four bowling athletes to get full scholarships to attend College while at the same time bowling NCAA Division or USBC Sanctioned college teams.

In addition, Coach Moore has bowled numerous 299 and 300 games over his bowling career.  His highest average was 231 for 87 games where he made the All-City team in 2013-2014 and was one of the top bowlers in Huntsville during that time. He currently has a USBC Bronze Coaching certification and will be sitting for the Advanced Silver Certification next month.

He is supported by his wife Yolanda Yates-Moore who is a bronze level certified coach and will be taking the silver certification exam also. Although she is the Secretary of the Roll-X Academy, she utilizes her spare time to volunteer as an assistant coach for the Women's Bowling Team.  Coach Moore is a graduate of Alabama A&M University with a B.S. Degree in Urban Planning and a Master's Degree in Urban and Regional Planning. He teaches part-time in the Department of Community Regional Planning as an Adjunct Professor.
