Madison claims silver at SWAC Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM — Sophia Madison opened the Southwestern Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships strong for Alabama A&M.

On the opening day of competition, Madison scored 3,262 points to claim a silver medal on Thursday at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

"I am pleased with my results this year during this competition," Madison said. "The ultimate goal wasn't to just 'Win,' the goal was to beat my total score and marks from my last pentathlon competition. By doing so I won something even more satisfying which is progression."

Madison set an early trend for Alabama A&M. Good things happened on the opening day for the Bulldogs.

Sabria Wooten qualified for the finals in the women's mile run by finishing 9th at 5:42.18, while Terion Davis qualified for the finals in the women's 400-meter dash in the eighth position at 58.31.

"This is what I've been grinding all season for," Davis said. "I wanted to make it to the Finals. It's all or nothing from here. No regrets. No looking back."

The women's distance medley relay consisting, of Diamond Griffin, Maya Davis, Autumn Lockin and Sabria Wooten, finished the meet with a place fifth-place finish with a time of 13:13.70
