HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alabama A&M bowling defeated Texas Southern and swept Grambling State in the SWAC East Roundup over the weekend in D'Iberville, Mississippi to clinch a spot in the SWAC Women's Bowling Championships.

Montaya Walton (Detroit, Mich.) led the Bulldogs (3-7) on the weekend finishing 12th overall in the individual standings with an average of 177.4 in 10 games, including games of 200, 221 and 222 pins.

Nariya Jackson (Fort Wayne, Ind.) finished 19th overall with an average of 174.4 pins with games of 200 and 215, while senior
Daphne Price (Memphis, Tenn.) also finished in the top 25 rankings, averaging 152.44 pins throughout the weekend.

Alabama A&M finished one game behind Southern University in the regular season standings after play was completed Saturday afternoon, after coming within one spare of sweeping No. 25 Texas Southern, winning the first match 861-844 on Friday, but lost in the rematch on Saturday 800-839.

The Bulldogs swept Grambling for their remaining wins on the weekend to clinch the sixth seed in the 2021 SWAC Women's Bowling Championship Tournament, scheduled for March 19-21 in Arlington, Texas.

The Championships will be the next action for A&M as their next three tournaments, the Mardi Gras Classic in Baton Rouge, originally scheduled for February 12-14, the Mid-Winter Classic in Jonesboro, Arkansas scheduled for February 19-21 and The National Bowling Association (TNBA) Invitational in Atlanta, Georgia scheduled for March 5-7 have all been canceled due to COVID-19.
