HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Alabama A&M (0-1, 0-0 SWAC) women's tennis team fell 7-0 to in state opponent the University of Alabama-Birmingham (2-3, 0-0 C-USA) in an NCAA Division I women's tennis match on Sunday, February 14.
In doubles, junior
Ximena Duarte Ramirez (Asuncion, Paraguay) and senior
Nthabiseng Mashego (Alabaster, Ala.) fell to Sydney Clarke and Alexandra Ferreira Da Silva on Court 2, 6-0, while sophomore Camila Ruiz Dias (Paraguay) and junior
India Woods (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) were defeated by Jana Hecking and Annalisa Smith 6-3 on Court 3. In the final doubles match, Adela Wasserbauerova and Dominika Hrabalova held off juniors
Anita Bozhko (Minsk, Belarus) and
Jasmine Boyd (Marion, Ind.) on Court 1 by the score of 7-5.
Woods opened up the singles for the Bulldogs, but fell to UAB's Smith by a score of 6-0 and 6-1 on Court 6, while Bozhko fell 6-2 in straight sets to Wasserbauerova on Court 2 giving the Blazers the 3-0 lead.
Ruis Dias participated in the third singles match for A&M, falling to Megan Bertrands on Court 3 by scores of 6-0 and 6-2. The final two matches were also won by the Blazers, as Hecking defeated Boyd 6-3, 6-3 on Court 1, Hrabalova was a 6-2, 6-1 winner against Duarte Ramirez on Court 4 and Clarke defeated sophomore
Neha Ghare (Pune, India) 7-5, 1-6, 1-0 (5) on Court 5.
Alabama A&M will return to play on Friday, February 19 against rival Alabama State as they begin the SWAC Roundup in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. First serve is scheduled for 9 a.m.
