BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Another day and another couple of All-Conference honorees as Alabama A&M women's indoor track & field placed 5-of-10 on the final day of the 2021 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Indoor Championships, bringing their total to seven honorees Thursday, February 25.
Senior
Danice Loney (Melbourne, Fla.) led the Bulldogs contingent as she claimed the 2021 SWAC Championship in the pole vault, finishing 1-of-6 with a season-high mark of 3.61-meters. She would not be alone in her All-SWAC honor as fellow senior
Sabria Wooten (Dallas, Ga.) returned to the podium.
Coming off an opening day that saw her claim individual and team honors, the latter with the distance medley relay, Wooten made it three All-SWAC recognitions as she excelled in the 5,000-meters. She crossed the line in 19:27.66 to finish 3-of-8 and also just missed a fourth honor as she came in 4-of-8 in the mile (5:28.07).
Rounding out A&M's top performances was versatile sophomore
Fabiona Jackson-Jenkins (Montgomery, Ala.) with a pair of Top-10 outings. She placed 8-of-23 in the 400-meters with a time of 58.06 and was 10-of-26 in the 200-meters at 25.79.
"I am proud of these young ladies who helped close out a top five finish in what we will refer to as a very memorable season." said head coach
LaShaunda Jones. "Our distance crew with senior
Sabria Wooten and sophomore
Aneisha Ingram definitely showed that they have been trusting the process and putting in the work. They alone accounted for 35 points out of our 49 points, which is amazing. Now we just have to go back to the drawing board for outdoor and give them some support from the other events groups."
The Bulldogs will now await word on any individual qualifications for the 2021 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships. Set to be held from March 11-13 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and hosted by the University of Arkansas, those selections will be announced live on
www.NCAA.com on Tuesday, March 2.
