JACKSON, Miss. – Taking on one of the best teams in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), Alabama A&M (4-4, 4-3 SWAC) dropped a 4-0 decision at Jackson State (7-3, 5-1 SWAC in an NCAA Division I women's tennis match on Saturday, March 20.
The Tigers would come out strong in doubles play as the pairing of Fabiola Candal Ranalli and Robin Alston picked up a 6-3 win over junior
Ximena Duarte Ramirez (Asuncion, Paraguay) and senior
Nthabiseng Mashego (Alabaster, Ala.) at the No. 3 spot. They would then finish off the doubles point with a 6-2 win by Tyra Nicole-Whyte and Sofia Beggiatto as they defeated junior
India Woods (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) and sophomore
Camila Ruiz Diaz (Asuncion, Paraguay) at the two spot.
That lead would grow quickly in singles action as Ranalli and Nicole-Whyte posted identical 6-1, 6-0 decisions over Woods and freshman
Kennedy Ward (Hoover, Ala.) at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, respectively. JSU would then finish off the sweep with 6-1, 6-2 win by Frenzel over Duarte Ramirez at No. 3.
Alabama A&M will be in action next weekend as they step out of conference for a pair of matches, the first at Southeastern Conference foe Auburn on Saturday, March 27 before hosting Western Kentucky at the Huntsville Tennis Center on Sunday, March 28. Those are both set for 2 p.m. start times.
