MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Seniors
Akia Slaughter (Smyrna, Ga.) and
Danice Loney (Melbourne, Fla.) delivered record setting performances as Alabama A&M women's track & field delivered impressive performances at the Montevallo Falcon Classic from March 19-20.
Slaughter was dominant as she placed 1-of-49 in the 200-meters and broke the meet record with a time of 24.76 and also earned a 1-of-42 finish in the 100-meters, crossing the line in 12.34. Loney continued to excel in the pole vault, clearing at 3.70 for a 1-of-17 finish and a meet record of her own.
While not meet records, junior
Jayla Neal (Atlanta, Ga.) wasn't far behind in terms of impressive performances, notching a 3-of-17 outing in the long jump (5.44m) and 3-of-9 in the triple jump (10.69m). Junior
Danielle Chambers (Atlanta, Ga.) finished 4-of-22 in the 400-meters with a time of 58.89 and added a 14-of-49 mark in the 200-meters (26.34).
Sophomore
Fabiona Jackson-Jenkins (Montgomery, Ala.) notched a pair of Top-10 finishes, coming in 5-of-22 in the 400-meters (59.33) and 7-of-49 in the 200-meters (25.62) while senior
Diamond Griffin (Miami, Fla.) was 6-of-22 in the 800-meters at 2:24.21. Graduate
Camiya Knight (Birmingham, Ala.) placed 12
th in that event with a time of 2:28.39 and senior
Sabria Wooten (Dallas, Ga.) was 14-of-40 in the 5,000-meters at 19:20.63 to round out the top performances.
The Bulldogs return to action from March 26-27 when they travel to Starkville, Mississippi for the Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays.
