DALLAS, Texas – Alabama A&M won a pair of qualifying matches on Day 1 of the 2021 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Bowling Championships before falling in the six-team double elimination on Day 2 on Saturday, March 20.
The Bulldogs went 2-3 in the qualifying round, registering a combined pinfall of 4,367 with an average of 174.7 and was led by sophomore
Nariya Jackson (Fort Wayne, Ind.) with an average pinfall of 188.8 in those five games. She was joined by senior
Daphne Price (Memphis, Tenn.) with an average of 187.60 and sophomore
Montaya Walton (Detroit, Mich.) at 177.60.
They would open up the double elimination portion facing off against Alabama State where they dropped a 4-1 decision. The Hornets would notch wins of 185-175 (Gm. 1), 206-196 (2)179-164 (4) and 155-145 (5) while A&M picked up a 236-220 victory in Game 3.
In what would be their final match of the weekend, the Bulldogs took on Texas Southern in what ended up being a six-match set. A&M claimed the first two of those by scores of 190-164 and 172-169 before TSU came to life. They proceeded to win the next four for a 4-2 victory that would eliminate A&M by scores of 233-172 (3), 198-180 (4), 216-158 (5) and 181-157 (6).
The Bulldogs will now wait to see if a postseason opportunity presents itself following a season that saw them compete in only a pair of meets as a result of cancellations due to the pandemic.
