BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Impressive outings that reset meet records have earned Alabama A&M seniors
Danice Loney (Melbourne, Fla.) and
Akia Slaughter (Smyrna, Ga.) a sweep of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week honors as announced by the league on Tuesday, March 30.
SWAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week: Danice Loney
Loney delivered a record setting performance as Bulldogs women's track & field produced impressive outings at the Montevallo Falcon Classic from March 19-20.
As she has throughout her career, she continued to excel in the pole vault, clearing at 3.70-meters for a 1-of-17 finish. That mark not only was good enough for first place in this year's meet but also broke the meet record.
SWAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week: Akia Slaughter
Slaughter did just that to the Montevallo Falcon Classic record book as she delivered a record setting outing among an impressive performance as A&M women's track & field competed in Montevallo, Alabama from March 19-20.
She was dominant as she placed 1-of-49 in the 200-meters and broke the meet record with a time of 24.76. She also earned a 1-of-42 finish in the 100-meters, crossing the line in 12.34.
