Alabama A&M Women’s Tennis Makes It Three Straight Shutouts With 4-0 Win Over Southern

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alabama A&M (3-2, 3-1 SWAC) continued to roll as they notched their third straight shutout as they pounded Southern (1-5, 1-2 SWAC) by a 4-0 score in an NCAA Division I women's tennis match on Saturday, March 6.

The Bulldogs would earn the lone doubles point to go up 1-0 but would have to work for it, beginning with junior India Woods (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) and sophomore Camila Ruiz Diaz (Asuncion, Paraguay) picking up a 6-2 decision over Kourtni Stewart and Takalani Molaoa at No. 2.

Juniors Jasmine Boyd (Marion, Ind.) and Anita Bozhko (Minsk, Belarus) then secured the point with a narrow 6-4 win at the top spot over Tanaka Chakanyuka and Agyeponmaaa Mintah. When that one went final, the Jaguars' Shaeda Nickle and Sasha Taurberekera led 5-4 at No. 3 but that effort would go for naught and remain unfinished.

A&M would waste no time taking command during singles play as Ruiz Diaz made it 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Taurberekera at No. 4 and was followed by Boyd with a 6-3, 6-1 decision against Mintah at the second spot. The Bulldogs would finish it off with Bozhko at the No. 1 position as she posted a 6-2, 6-2 final against Chakanyuka to close out the 4-0 victory.

Alabama A&M returns to action on Friday, March 12 when they travel to Montgomery, Alabama for the first of two matches against SWAC opponents. That day they will take on Alcorn State before facing Prairie View A&M the following day. First serve for both matches is set for 10 a.m.
