BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama A&M freshman Esperanza Coe (Beaumont, Calif.) has earned her second straight Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) weekly honor, being named Softball Player of the Week as announced by the league on Thursday, April 1.
 
Coe delivered an impressive week as she made her three hits count, belting three homeruns and driving in six runs and scoring three herself.
 
She opened the week in Game 1 of the Prairie View A&M series as she went 1-for-3 with a solo shot and added a walk to go with a solid pitching performance. In the circle she threw all seven innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out four to improve to 5-2.
 
Coe added a monster Game 2 as she ripped a pair of homeruns, including a three-run jack, as she went 2-for-4 with five RBIs and a pair of runs scored. She polished off the week not with a hitting performance as she went 0-3 at the plate but as a pitcher holding the Panthers down.
 
Her final outing of the week would see her throw all six innings, scatter five hits and allow just two runs to suffer the hard luck 2-1 loss.
 
As a pitcher on the week she hurled two complete games for a total of 13 innings, striking out five and allowing 10 hits and six runs for a 3.23 ERA.
 
Alabama A&M softball and Coe are back in action tomorrow at Alcorn State for the first game of a three-game series. First pitch of that one is set for 3 p.m. with the doubleheader portion set for 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 3.
