BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Already proving to be a dual threat in her first collegiate season, Alabama A&M freshman pitcher Esperanza Coe (Beaumont, Calif.) had that affirmed as she swept both Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week honors as announced by the league on Wednesday, April 7.
 
Coe delivered an impressive week as she continued to dominate at the plate and in the circle as she went 2-0 with a 0.54 Earned Run Average, two complete games and 12 strikeouts and just four walks in 13 innings.
 
At the plate she hit .400 (4-of-10), smacking another homerun and a double to drive in three and score three herself.
 
In Game 1 at Alcorn State she belted her fifth homerun of the season, going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and three runs scored while pitching a complete game. In the latter portion she allowed just one earned run while striking out six to improve to 6-3.
 
Game 2 would see Coe barrel up two more hits in three at bats, including a double in a 3-0 shutout that she pitched. She scattered five hits and struck out six to collect her seventh win of the season.
 
The finale against the Braves would be one that would see A&M register just four hits as a team. In that one Coe earned a walk and played a flawless first base to close out an impressive week.
 
Alabama A&M softball and Coe return to the field for a three-game series at Jackson State from April 16-17. First pitch of the opener is set for 5 p.m. with the doubleheader portion set for 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 17.
