JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Alabama A&M senior
Akia Slaughter (Smyrna, Ga.) closed out the 2020-21 campaign as she competed against some of the best in the country in the 100- and 200-meters at the NCAA Division I Women's Outdoor Track & Field East Preliminaries on Thursday, May 27.
Slaughter opened with the 100-meters, running in the second heat against competitors from the likes of Ohio State, Florida State, Maryland and Norfolk State. She would finish eighth in that heat with a time of 11.98 and place 48
th overall.
In the 200-meters she would face two individuals from SEC schools such as Alabama and Ole Miss as well as a pair from track & field powerhouse North Carolina A&T. Slaughter went on to place seventh with a time of 25.29 in her section and 46
th overall to round out the season.
One of the Bulldogs top performers on the season, Slaughter wraps up the 2020-21 campaign with three All-Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) honors and the distinction of being just the second women's outdoor track & field athlete to qualify for the NCAA East Preliminaries in at least the past 11 years.
