PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – With just two competitors going on the opening day of the 2021 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championships, Alabama A&M women's outdoor track & field made the most of it with a pair of strong performances on Thursday, May 6.
 
Freshman Briana Cox (Miami, Fla.) posted an 8-of-17 finish in the hammer, hitting a distance of 43.16-meters while senior Sophia Madison (Pensacola, Fla.) competed in the first four events of the heptathlon.
 
She closed the day at 4-of-9 after placing second in the shotput (10.25m) and high jump (1.52m), fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (16.57) and ninth in the 200-meters (29.78).
 
The Bulldogs will return to action tomorrow with a full slate of events beginning at 8:30 a.m. with the final three events of the heptathlon.
