PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Seeing a full field of 13 competitors, Alabama A&M women's outdoor track & field saw a number of strong performances on Day 2 of the 2021 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championships, including four individuals advancing to finals in five events, on Friday, May 7.
Headlining that effort was senior
Akia Slaughter (Smyrna, Ga.) who reached the finals in both the 200-meters (6-of-30, 24.08) and 100-meters (7-of-20, 11.80) while senior
Terion Davis (Lakeland, Fla.) advanced with a 2-of-22 (55.66) outing in the 400-meters.
They were joined by sophomore
Aneisha Ingram (Frankfield, Jamaica) with a 7-of-15 performance in the 800-meters (2:19.18) and junior
Danielle Chambers (Atlanta, Ga.) at 7-of-22 in the 400-meters at 56.45. Each has earned the right to compete for a league championship on the final day of the meet.
Wrapping up her primary event was senior
Sophia Madison (Pensacola, Fla.) as she came in at 4-of-9 in the heptathlon. She finished with 3,803 points after placing fourth in both the long jump (5.08m) and javelin (26.66m) and sixth in the 800-meters (2:49.00).
Junior
Jayla Neal (Atlanta, Ga.) notched a 9-of-23 finish in the long jump (5.53m) and was 11-of-20 in the javelin (29.80m) while freshman
Trinidee Hampton (West Memphis, Arkansas) was 11
th in the long jump at 5.36-meters. Sophomore
Fabiona Jackson-Jenkins (Montgomery, Ala.) rounded out the top performances with a 12-of-22 outing in the 400-meters (57.99).
