BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Graduate Jairyn Russell (Birmingham, Ala.) was one of the top performers in the 60-meters as Alabama A&M women's indoor track & field cracked the lid on the 2021-22 season at the Samford Open on Saturday, January 22.
Competing at the Birmingham CrossPlex, Russell posted a time of 8.09 in the preliminaries of that event to advance to the semifinals. She would then improve on her previous performance and stopped the clock at 8:03 to place 13-of-59.
Joining her was junior Brayanna Washington (St. Louis, Mo.) with a 28
th place finish and a time of 8.20 while junior
Fabiona Jackson-Jenkins (Montgomery, Ala.) was the lone representative for AAMU in the 200-meters and crossed the line in 26.61 to finish 20-of-59.
Freshman
Taylor Wingo (D'Iberville, Miss.) came in 21-of-28 (6:01.94 29) while the 400-meters would see senior Shanique Masters (St. Catherine, Jamaica) post a time of 1:01.71 to finish 23-of-46.
The Bulldogs will be back in action as they return to the Birmingham CrossPlex on Sunday, February 6 for the USA Jaguar Invitational.
