HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – After playing in front of more than 18,000 on Homecoming, Alabama A&M (1-4, 1-1 SWAC) football is home for back-to-back weeks as they host Grambling (1-4, 0-2 SWAC) at Louis Crews Stadium for the first time since 2018 on Saturday, October 8. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
WHERE TO WATCH
For the first time, fans can check out their Bulldogs on HBCU Go, a new Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) sponsored network that covers everything Historically Black College and University (HBCU) related when it comes to sports.
It is a free streaming digital platform that brings the game into national markets such as New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Dallas, Atlanta, San Francisco, Boston, Seattle, Tampa, Detroit, Miami and Pittsburgh, among others.
Check out your
local listings for over the air coverage or click on
HBCU Go to view digitally. Locally in the Huntsville area the game will be carried on the CW.
Fans can also follow the game through
live stats and catch up on all the action following the game on

ITS OCTOBER AND THAT MEANS PINK – SPECIFICALLY A PINK OUT!
We go from turning Louis Crews Stadium maroon to a full on Pink Out as we hit the final home game in October. A&M will recognize breast cancer survivors and deliver messages throughout the game in support of those battling the disease, those who are fighting it and those working to develop treatments.
That said, fans are encouraged to rock their pink wardrobe before, during and after the game as we raise awareness to fight this disease.
Additionally, fans can continue to pick up crucial info on traffic patterns, parking, concession, tailgating, what not to bring and what not to do – in the
2022 AAMU Football Gameday Guide. On top of that, make sure to check out
Gameday Central for anything else that is key for an A&M fan.
IF WERE EVEN, WE'RE LEAVIN'
Alabama A&M built a 14-0 second quarter lead on the strength of a pair of touchdowns by sophomore running back
Donovan Eaglin (Houston, Texas) and then allowed a pair of scores in that frame to even it up at 14-14 at the half.
They would make sure it wouldn't stay that way as they hit the second half and junior quarterback
Xavier Lankford (Pelham, Ala.) found senior wideout
Isiah Cox (Jasper, Ala.) for the go-ahead score less than five minutes into the third. Bethune-Cookman answered back with a TD of their own – only to try an ill-fated two-point conversion that left them down 21-20. An eight-yard touchdown grab by senior wide receiver
Cameron Young (Daphne, Ala.) pushed it to 28-20 at the end of the third and a three-yard shovel pass to Eaglin put it at 35-20 with 8:20 to play. The Bulldogs would then end B-CU's next drive with an interception before the Wildcats found the endzone to reach the final margin of 35-27 with 12 seconds to play.
Lankford delivered 204 yards and three touchdowns through the air but it would be Eaglin that would steal the show – see below …
EAGLIN'S BEST
In his first sustained action in the Maroon and White,
Donovan Eaglin produced an impressive performance, notching 190 yards on the ground with two rushing TDs and two receptions for 12 yards, one for a third score.
That outing, which included numerous long and key runs, landed him not only SWAC Offensive Player of the Week but also BOXTOROW National Player of the Week. Both were the first by a Bulldog this year and the first since
Aqeel Glass (St. Louis, Mo.) pulled off the double-dip at the beginning of last season.
ABOUT THE GAME
The game against the Tigers will mark the only time that A&M will play at home in back-to-back weeks following Homecoming last week against Bethune-Cookman.
It will also be the last home game for 42 days as the Bulldogs will not return to Louis Crews until the regular season finale when they host Texas Southern on November 19.
While that is a significant stretch, it pales in comparison to the four seasons since GSU last set foot on the turf at Crews, that coming on November 10, 2018. They were scheduled to return in 2020 but that game was a casualty of the pandemic, eventually getting moved to March 27, 2021 before being cancelled due to COVID-19 protocols and last year's meeting returned to Louisiana.
The date will also be a rematch of an epic back-and-forth affair in that game when Grambling escaped with a 37-28 victory in the final minutes.
RACKING UP THE HONORS (SEASON EDITION)
While more than half the roster is new the returnees are well known and have racked up the preseason recognition.
That started with three All-SWAC Preseason selections as senior running back
Gary Quarles (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) and senior wide receiver
Abdul-Fatai Ibrahim (Miramar, Fla.) earned Second-Team while junior offensive lineman
Carson Vinson (Cary, N.C.) was selected to the Second-Team.
Quarles and Ibrahim would add to the mantle with the latter picking up Stats Perform FCS Preseason Third-Team All-American honors while both he and the diminutive tailback were named to the BOXTOROW Preseason All-American Team.
Ibrahim is also now a 10-time All-American following his most recent honor, a Second-Team selection by Hero Sports and both he and Quarles have been named to the prestigious Deacon Jones Award Watch list representing the top player from a Historically Black College or University (HBCU).
In-season, Eaglin cracked the seal on the awards with his SWAC and BOXTOROW National Player of the Week honors on Monday, October 3.
MORE THAN 70-PERCENT OF A SEASON IN THE SPOTLIGHT
The Bulldogs are a popular choice to hit the airwaves in 2022 as more than 70-percent of their season will be on national television.
In an 11-game schedule, A&M will be featured six times by traditional networks, beginning with CBS Sports Network carrying the season-opening UAB contest. Also being picked up will be Troy (ESPN3), Florida A&M (ESPN+), Alabama State (ESPN Networks), Mississippi Valley State (ESPNU) and Jackson State (ESPN+).
That slate plays to the fan that can't get to all the road games as every single one of those six games are on the road. A&M will also see a pair of home games aired on the new endeavor that is HBCUGo, with those being the October 8 game against Grambling and the regular season finale with Texas Southern on November 19.

ABOUT THE GRAMBLING STATE UNIVERSITY TIGERS
The Tigers return to Huntsville for the first time in four years riding a three-game losing streak and sporting a 1-4 overall record and 0-2 mark in the SWAC.
Grambling opened with a 58-3 loss at Arkansas State (9/3) and followed with a 47-21 decision over Northwestern State (9/10) the following week before running into the buzzsaw that is Jackson State, falling 66-24 on September 17. The latter kicked off that three-game skid with a 36-19 loss to Bethune-Cookman and a 34-14 defeat at the hands of Prairie View at the Cotton Bowl on October 1.
LET'S GET SERIE-OUS
The Bulldogs and Tigers go back a ways, with most of that in the program's NCAA Division I era. Looking at the series history dating from 1998,
GSU holds an impressive 20-6 advantage and has won the last six meetings.
The latter dates to October 4, 2014 with a 38-28 victory at Louis Crews Stadium following AAMU's last win, a 23-9 decision on August 31, 2013 at Grambling. Most recently the Tigers escaped with a 37-28 decision in the Bayou on October 2, 2021.
Series Flashback
With a series that spans 26 games, we go all the way back to 2006 for a thrilling matchup that propelled the Bulldogs back into the national rankings for the first time since 2003. In that one they pulled out a 30-27 win in the final seconds at Crews. Check out
the full recap to get the entire story of one of the most entertaining games in the series history.
