HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alabama A&M (1-3, 0-0 SWAC) softball is right back in action as they head to Vicksburg, Mississippi for five games at the River City Classic hosted by Alcorn State from February 18-19.
 
SCOUTING THE FIELD
The Bulldogs come in following the Lion Classic this past weekend that saw them notch a 9-6 victory over Nicholls State (2/11) and losses of 13-0 to 2021 Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Regular Season Champion Southeast Missouri (2/11), 7-3 to Nicholls and 12-5 to host Southeastern Louisiana.
 
Host Alcorn (4-2, 0-0 SWAC) comes in having won four of their first six games but with only one of those contests having come against a fellow NCAA Division I opponent. That would be an 8-3 loss to Tennessee State (2/11) along with a 13-0 win over Kentucky State (2/10) and wins over NAIA competition Southeastern Baptist (11-0 on 2/11 and 19-0 on 2/12) and 8-7 over Xavier of Louisiana (2/12). They would also fall 8-2 to the latter the following day.
 
North Alabama (4-1, 0-0 ASUN) has opened strong with a nine-inning 5-4 victory vs. Samford (2/11), a split with Southern Mississippi (L, 8-6 on 2/11 and W, 7-0 on 2/12) and a pair of wins over Saint Louis, 6-2 in eight innings on February 12 and 7-3 on February 13.
 
Eastern Illinois comes in at 1-3 following the Rosemont Dome Tournament last weekend, defeating Valparaiso (2/11) by an 11-2 score and falling to Western Michigan (6-2 on 2/10), St. Thomas (12-9 on 2/11) and 5-3 to Bowling Green (2/12).
 
SERIES HISTORY
A&M has faced two of their three opponents this weekend, trailing fellow Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) foe Alcorn State 30-22 since 2005 and Eastern Illinois 4-0 with the last meeting coming on March 11, 2017. Despite their proximity, approximately an hour apart, North Alabama and AAMU have never met.
