MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Sophomore
Felipe Gomez (Bogota, Columbia) delivered an impressive performance as Alabama A&M got the 2022 portion of their schedule underway as they posted scores of 324-320-644 to place 6-of-8 at the ASU Spring Classic on Monday, February 21.
Gomez led the field after Day 1 as he shot a 72 before registering an 83 to finish 7-of-42 with a 155 while senior
Jason Johnson (Toledo, Ohio) finished with an 81-82-163. Juan Rey Gaitan rounded out the top performers, tying for 25
th with a 92-75-167.
Western Illinois shot a 310-306-616 to win the tournament with host Alabama State 12 strokes back in second at 312-316-628. Evansville (313-323-636), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (322-316-638) and Savannah State (329-313-642) rounded out the top five.
Alabama A&M returns to action with a short turnaround as they head to the Southwestern Athletic Conference Invitational. That tournament will be played in Birmingham, Alabama at Robert Trent Jones Oxmoor Valley from February 26-27.
