HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – With 15 games under their belt Alabama A&M (5-10, 0-0 SWAC) softball heads to Itta Bena, Mississippi to open Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play against Mississippi Valley State (2-11, 0-0 SWAC) in a three-game series beginning on Friday, March 11.
Originally scheduled for one game on the first day, the teams will now play two beginning at 1 p.m. in order to limit the impact of severe weather on Saturday, March 12. That day they will now play a single game at 1 p.m.
Off since March 1, the Bulldogs come in having swept a doubleheader from NCAA Division II member Tuskegee by scores of 7-5 and 10-7, the latter in eight innings. Valley enters the weekend having dropped an 8-0 decision at Mississippi State on March 2 but defeated fellow league member Southern 5-0 in a non-conference meeting on February 26.
SERIES HISTORY
Dating back to the 2005 season, MVSU holds a commanding 41-12 advantage in the all-time series, including 21 of those in Itta Bena. The majority of those came more than seven years ago with a 15-game win streak by the Devilettes from February 25, 2007 through April 25, 2010 and an 11-game stretch from March 26, 2011 through April 19, 2014. Most recently the Bulldogs have won three in a row with a sweep of the series last season.
