Trip To Montgomery, Alabama and Showdown With Rival Alabama State Next Up For Alabama A&M Softball

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Rivalry weekend has arrived yet again as Alabama A&M (7-16, 2-6 SWAC) softball heads three hours south to Montgomery, Alabama to take on Alabama State (14-17, 6-3) in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action from April 1-2. The clubs will play the doubleheader portion beginning at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 1 with the finale coming at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 2.

A&M comes into the weekend having taken one game in a high-scoring three-game set with Florida A&M, winning 7-1 in the finale on Sunday, March 27. That followed an 8-6 loss in the opener the day before and a 9-5 decision in the first game of the doubleheader.

ASU, meanwhile, is coming off of a tour of the top teams in the State of Alabama. They dropped an 8-0 decision at No. 4 Alabama (3/29) and fell 6-2 at No. 18 Auburn (3/30) in their last two outings.

SERIES HISTORY
Dating back to the 2005 season, Alabama A&M trails rival ASU 29-23 but won the first 10 from March 25 of that year through March 22, 2008. The Hornets would then win the next eight straight through April 23, 2011, marking their second longest win streak in series history.

Their longest would equal the Bulldogs 10-game stretch, this one coming from March 31, 2012 and running through April 18, 2015. More recently, Alabama State enters with a six-game win streak, beginning with a 4-0 decision in Montgomery, Alabama on February 20, 2021.
