Alabama A&M Softball Travels To Jackson State For Critical SWAC Series

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Fighting to make the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tournament, Alabama A&M (11-22, 5-12 SWAC) softball travels to Jackson, Mississippi to take on Jackson State  (19-21, 10-8 SWAC) in a series that will go a long way to determining if they reach the postseason. First pitch of the opener is set for 5 p.m. on Friday, April 22 with the doubleheader portion set to follow at 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 23.

A&M comes in having posted a 5-2 road win in the late innings at Tennessee State (4/19) in their final non-conference action while JSU is coming off a series victory over Alabama State after having dropped five in a row. The Tigers notched 6-5 and 5-4 victories in the first two games, the last coming in 10 innings, and fell 7-1 in finale.

The Bulldogs currently sit in sixth in the East Division and would need to jump Mississippi Valley State (7-10 SWAC), whom they lost two to and play four more times in Huntsville, and Alabama State. Against the latter, AAMU took two of three in Montgomery earlier this month to earn the head-to-head tie-breaker.

SERIES HISTORY
Dating back to the 2005 season, Jackson State holds a 31-24 advantage in the all-time series. A&M holds the longest win streak in the series history with nine straight from April 25, 2016 through April 6, 2019.

Prior to that JSU had won six in a row from March 30, 2013 through April 12, 2015 and has won seven of the past eight dating to a 9-4 decision in eight innings on April 6, 2019. This year they took two of three in Huntsville, falling 6-5 in the opener on March 19 before winning 6-1 in the nightcap and 9-7 in the series finale the following day.
