HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alabama A&M (6-14, 5-4 SWAC) women's tennis has earned the No. 4 seed in the 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tournament and will take on No. 6 seed Florida A&M (6-13, 5-4 SWAC) in quarterfinal action at 9 a.m. on Friday, April 22. This year's tournament will be played at the Pepsi Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.
 
The Bulldogs earned the No. 4 seed by virtue of a three-way tie with FAMU and Alcorn State and will now face the Rattlers in the quarterfinals. They come in off of a 7-0 win over Tennessee State after having dropped six straight, half of those coming against non-conference foes Western Kentucky, Belmont and Western Carolina.
 
Florida A&M dropped a 7-0 decision at Georgia Southern (4/8) in their most recent match after blanking both Southern (3/26) and Bethune-Cookman (4/3).
 
SERIES HISTORY
It is a limited series history with the teams having only met four times since March 4, 2006, resulting in a 3-1 Florida A&M advantage. That first meeting would see the Bulldogs pull out a narrow 4-3 win before the Rattlers won 5-2 the next time the teams got together nearly a decade later on February 14, 2016 in Huntsville.
 
They would play the following year on February 18, 2017 in Tallahassee, Florida with FAMU notching a slim 4-3 decision. It would be five years until they would meet again with the Rattlers making it two straight with another 4-3 win, this time in Montgomery, Alabama as SWAC members.
 
The winner of that match will advance to the semifinals to take on top seeded Jackson State at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 23. The 2022 SWAC Championship will then be decided at 9 a.m. on Sunday, April 24.
