BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama A&M women's tennis has earned a pair of All-Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) selections for a third straight year as announced by the league on Friday, April 22.
Juniors
Camila Ruiz Diaz (Ascunion, Paraguay) and
Neha Ghare (Pune, India) were each named to the Second-Team, at the No. 4 and No. 5 singles positions, respectively, following impressive seasons.
The Bulldogs have now had at least one honoree in 10 of the past 16 seasons, including seven years with multiple selections. Accounting for the pandemic year of 2020 when no league awards were presented, A&M has had two selections in each of the past three years dating to 2019.
CAMILA RUIZ DIAZ – SECOND-TEAM (NO. 4 POSITION)
Ruiz Diaz has been one of the top players in the SWAC at the No. 4 singles position. Overall, she is 7-7 across the No. 3-5 positions but is a sterling 5-0 in league play at the four spot.
In league action she swept Bethune-Cookman, Mississippi Valley State and Florida A&M while notching singles wins over Grambling and Alcorn. In non-conference play she also swept Tennessee State and posted a singles win over Jacksonville State.
NEHA GHARE – SECOND-TEAM (NO. 5 POSITION)
Ghare has held down the No. 5 singles and No. 1 doubles positions throughout the 2022 campaign, going 6-2 in singles and 4-7 in doubles. Overall, she is 7-8 in singles and 4-8 in doubles.
In SWAC play she went 4-1 at No. 1 doubles and 5-1 at No. 5 singles. In the process she has notched sweeps of Alcorn, Mississippi Valley State, Grambling and Southern and a singles win over Florida A&M.
Non-conference action would see Ghare knock off Tennessee State's No. 4 and North Alabama's No. 5.
