BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama A&M freshman outfielder
Allyson Riches (San Diego, Calif.) has been named Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Softball Hitter of the Week as announced by the league on Tuesday, April 26.
Riches produced an outstanding week, hitting .500 (7-of-14) and slugged .786 while delivering four doubles, eight RBIs and three runs scored. She also struck out only once while walking one time.
She opened the week at Tennessee State (4/19), going 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs before lacing another double to go with a walk, RBI and run as part of a 2-for-3 day in the opener at Jackson State (4/22).
The California native then went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs against the Tigers before going 1-for-3 with two RBIs in the series finale.
On the season she is batting .391 (34-of-87), slugging .517, has an on-base percentage of .417, OPS of .988 and has 13 walks with 18 RBIs, nine doubles and 15 runs scored. In terms of the SWAC she is forth in on-base, sixth in average, tied for sixth in doubles and seventh in OPS.
It is the second such honor for the Bulldogs this season as Riches joins junior infielder
Venice Sanders (Birmingham, Ala.) who earned the recognition on April 6.
Alabama A&M softball and Riches return to action when they host Mississippi Valley State from April 29-30. First pitch of the opener is slated for 2 p.m. on Friday, April 29 with the doubleheader portion set for 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 30.
