Alabama A&M 2021-22 Season in Review: Bowling

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – With the close of the 2021-22 campaign, the Alabama A&M Sports Information Office is producing a Season in Review for each of the program's 16 sports from the past year.
 
That series began with the fall season before progressing to the winter and spring campaigns. Each week reviews will be released on Mondays and Wednesdays until concluding with the final spring sport on Monday, July 18 and a Department Season in Review on Wednesday, July 20. Today we will take a look back at the 2021-22  Bowling season.

2021-22 Season in Review
  • Competed in 10 meets during the season that included at least 12 nationally ranked teams.
  • The Bulldogs finished 11-of-15 at the Valpo Bowling Classic (10/29), notching a pinfall total of 10,326 in 50 games and was in the No. 11 matchup on the final day. They would then go on to defeat North Central 1010-932.
  • AAMU defeated Southern 1,118-1,098 at the ISTAP Bowling Classic (11/21) and also delivered a 913-866 victory against Texas Southern at the SWAC East Regional Bowling Championships (2/6).
     
Individual Achievements/Honors
  • Junior Montaya Walton (Detroit, Mich.) delivered an impressive season as she became the first bowler to earn All-SWAC honors since 2015. She was named to the All-SWAC Second-Team after leading the Bulldogs with a 9-of-55 finish that included a pinfall average of 194.14 and a high of 224 at the East Regional Bowling Championship.
  • One of her best performances came at the Columbia 300 Music City Bowling Classic (3/20) that consisted of the first 15 national ranked teams. She finished 83-of-203 with a pinfall average of 184.60 and a high of 225.
  • Junior Nariya Jackson (Fort Wayne, Ind.) was the top leader for the Bulldogs at the Valpo Bowling Classic (10/31) finishing 14-of-90 with a pinfall average of 183.90 and a game-high of 210.
  • Junior Tamyra Long led the way for AAMU, finishing 9-of-63 with a pinfall average of 185.60 at the ISTAP Bowling Classic.
