BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama A&M University junior quarterback Xavier Lankford was selected the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Lankford had a huge performance on Saturday as Alabama A&M picked up its second-ever win at Grambling State and handed the Tigers their first homecoming loss since 2006.
The Pelham, Ala. native accounted for 320 of the Bulldogs' 463 total yards in the 45-24 victory. He ran 16 times for a career-high 193 yards, averaging 12.1 yards per carry, along with a pair of scores. Through the air, Lankford was 9 of 22 passing for 127 yards, with one touchdown and one interception.
Lankford was praised for his performance during ESPN's College Gameday Final by Joey Galloway and earned the coveted helmet sticker.
Alabama A&M (4-3 overall, 2-2 SWAC) is off this weekend and returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 28 in the Magic City Classic against rival Alabama State. Kickoff against the Hornets is set for 2:30 p.m. from historic Legion Field.
