HUNTSVILLE, Ala. __ Alabama A&M softball will host their home opening game of 2023, as they are set for a doubleheader against Oakwood on Wednesday, March 1 at the Bulldog Softball Field, with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m.
The Bulldogs (4-6) picked up a pair of wins last weekend in the HBCU Heritage Classic in Montgomery, defeating South Carolina State on Friday, before a ninth inning walk off win over Southern on Saturday, 10-9.
Venice Sanders (Birmingham, Ala.) has maintained her hot bat to start the season, leading the team with a .452 batting average to go along with 14 hits, 16 RBI and four home runs from the plate in nine games. She is followed by two other Bulldogs with double figure hit totals including
Faith Cross (Pulaski, Tenn.), hitting .379 on the year with 11 hits and
Allyson Riches (Sacramento, Calif.) at 10 hits and an average of .303 through her nine games played.
Meanwhile, both
Sydney Hall (Ardmore, Ala.) and
Paige Scott (Surrey, British Columbia, Canada) earned wins over the past weekend, with Hall working five innings and allowing just two runs against South Carolina State, while Scott picked up the win against Southern in the final game of the classic.
Oakwood comes into the matchup at 0-6 so far, with doubleheader losses against Stillman (Feb. 14) to open the season, followed by Lane (Feb. 17), and Faulkner (Feb. 20). Sydney Arnett leads the Ambassadors at the plate with a .333 average, followed by Lessie Allison, batting .182.
